Laura Clinton is a Licensed Midwife (LM) and Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), and she is a member of the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives (NACPM) and the Maine Chapter of Professional Midwives (MACPM).
Laura graduated from Midwives College of Utah with a Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery. Since 2022, she has practiced midwifery across three states, gaining experience in a range of birth settings. She has trained with home birth practices in Vermont, volunteered as a doula at the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMC), and trained at both a low-volume birth center in New Hampshire and a high-volume birth center in Seattle, Washington. She has had the privilege of supporting more than 100 births at home, in birth centers, and in hospitals.
Laura’s passion for midwifery began when she was just 13 years old. While training intensively in pre-professional ballet, she found herself spending her free time watching birth videos rather than ballet performances. That’s when she realized her true calling was not to become a professional dancer, but a midwife.
Throughout high school, Laura immersed herself in the birth community. She shadowed midwives in the Albany, New York, area, attended new mothers’ support groups, and interviewed practicing midwives about their work. At 16, she took part in an international midwifery internship in Warsaw, Poland, where she witnessed her first ten births. The experience confirmed what she already knew: midwifery was the path she was meant to follow.
Laura’s approach to midwifery is grounded in informed consent, individualized support, and trust in the innate strength and wisdom of women and birthing people. She believes pregnancy and birth are normal physiological processes that deserve respectful, personalized care. She is passionate about education and advocacy, and about creating a space where families feel heard, supported, empowered, and confident in the decisions they make for themselves and their babies.
Laura believes birth is one of life’s most transformative experiences. She considers it a profound privilege to walk alongside families with compassion, humility, and respect as they welcome new life into the world.
