At the University of Wisconsin- Madison, where I went to college, there was a class almost every female undergrad took at some point in their four years, Women’s Studies 103. A brief portion of the curriculum involved discussing birth culture in America and while most of the 400 women and 5 men in the room turned away at the birth videos, I was enthralled. Not long after, I became friends with the son of a midwife and dove into my first book on pregnancy and birth. Three chapters in and I was sold. I learned what it meant to watch someone give every bit of strength and power they had to bring their baby into the world, and knew I had chosen the right path.
